Chatsworth 25km (Freedom Marathon Mini)
By : Thandeka Ntombela
It was my first 25km run. I enjoyed my race on Sunday. I did better than expected with a time of 2h26. I was very happy because I was aiming for sub 2h30.
This is my longest distance so far as I normally run half marathon challenges. Chatsworth has got a lot of hills, but i had fun along the road. I can’t wait to do my first marathon ….. coming soon!
Other than running, I play netball and have been selected to represent KZN(Department of Health) at Pietermaritzburg on the 4th of May!

St Lucia Half Marathon
By : Elise Stander
What an amazing Race. St Lucia 21km done in 2h18, the BEST race I’ve ever did. We ran on the tar road, then through the forest, a little bit of sea sand and the boardwalk. The weather was definitely on our side.
Nou bietjie Afrikaans…My huis taal….Ek het bokkies, tarrentale, seekoeie, krokkedille, apies en voeltjies gesien op die roete. ‘n Pragtige roete deur die natuur en by die see. Dis ‘n skepping van God.
My friend Magda sang and said: “Ek sal ver uit die dorp kom met my sang”. We had so much fun
Then Malpit, Jan Badenhorst ran like the wind in the front of me. I got worried!!! He was on a mission……but we managed to pass him. Mooi gehardloop Jan!
Maar nie lank nie toe kom Henk Kaldenberg verby en hy bly voor. Maar “Yippie”…. Ons het hom opgevang net so voor die einde, maar hy was kort op ons hakke. Mooi Henk!!!
Weet nie wat het Dave Mcilrath “Ons Ysterman” en Nymus Booysen “gerook…hee hee”…Hulle het soos die wind gehardloop. Kon hulle nie opvang nie. Heeltemal te vinnig vir my!
St Lucia is an absolutely beautiful place. I wish I went for the whole weekend. Just couldn’t get enough.
This is defintely a MUST race for everybody…For young and old…Run or Walk. I just loved every minute of it.
En laastens dankie aan al my Richardsbaai maatjies.
Good luck to each and everyone doing Comrades

Exxaro Half Marathon 2012
By : Nomcebo Mthethwa
I like running races for Umhlathuze AC, I find it very challenging. I really enjoyed the Exxaro Half Marathon 2012 because the route is part cross country, and the weather was perfect. I lead the women’s race from start to finish and found that was really challenging, I didn’t have any difficulties on the road so that made it easy and fun for me.
Last year I won the Exxaro Half Marathon in a time of 1h42 and this year I improved my time to finish in a time of 1h35. That makes me really happy, because I believe the success of each runner is not about position. It is to be able to finish the race before the cut of time and to be able to finish it before the time that you set for yourself.
Nomcebo off to a good start at last years Exxaro
The weekend before the Exxaro Half Marathon 2012 I ran the Two Oceans half marathon where I finished in a time of 1h37, I wanted to keep that record because I finished my previous Two Oceans Half Marathon in 1h40, and I beat that time too.
I am hoping next year to also do well if I will be doing the Exxaro Half Marathon 2012.
Nomcebo finished the Exxaro Half Marathon 2012 in 29th place overall and won the Ladies Event. Even though she races mostly half marathons, she finished the November 2011 Soweto Marathon in 3:35:09, finishing in the lower 5th of the field.

Exxaro Marathon 2012
By : Bronwyn Hunt
An Event on the runners’ calendar not to be missed
The degree of difficulty was on the Xtreme side
Xtended rolling hills make for excellent preparation for comrades
The Air we breathed was crisp at the early start
Rural settings in the sugar cane fields were good for the soul
Thanks to the alert marshals we didn’t have to Orienteer
There were Many representatives from various clubs
The Atmosphere created by the hosts and supporters made for special memories at the start and finish
It was wonderful to enjoy the fellowship of fellow Runners en route
Runners and Walkers overcame their physical and mental Agonies to win the race against themselves
‘Tired and Thirsty’, we found great comfort from the willing and friendly helpers at the water tables
Hot! Hot! Hot! by midmorning
Thank you to the Organizers, you are a great team, uMhlathuze, we are proud of you
Never again ………………. Until next year!
