Well known Empangeni personality and uMhlathuze Athletic Club member Ingrid Furby writes:
One hot summer evening in February whilst attending a yoga class in a hall a friend and I decided we needed to enjoy our exercise out of doors so we joined Run Walk for Life and that is how it began. I somehow felt that the walking was not enough and progressed to running, which over the past 10 years has become part of my life. I joined the Crocodiles as it is important to be part of a group who enjoy what you enjoy and the friendship and encouragement has meant so much to me. I have completed many 21kms runs, relays and cross country runs which keep your body and mind healthy and it really is a great feeling when you have accomplished what you set out to do. I plan to put more into my training during 2006 and the weekly time trials are a very social occasion where runners gather to try and improve their own times. I would like to pass on to others that only when you have set yourself a goal and made it do you understand what a great feeling it is and you cannot wait to get back the next week to try and improve on your achievements. Running requires dedication like most sports and to those who are thinking about it, make a move and come and feel the difference it will make to your life by joining the Crocodiles.
The Umhlathuze athletic Club's Spares Shop half marathon runs through the farm of Ingrid and Mick Furby. This course proved very popular with the participants and will be repeated this year. We thank the Furby's for their kindness.
Ingrid has won many club prizes and is a respected member of the Crocodiles. Good luck for 2006 Ingrid and may you reach all your goals
